ASA Policy for Monitoring TH and PHA Genetic Defects |
TH and PHA testing are both required by ASA.
- ASA will test the top 50 sires based on the number of progeny reported in the previous calendar year and thereafter any new sire entering the top 50 Sires list.
- Progeny out of a registered suspect animal cannot be registered until the suspect animal (parent) is tested.
- A suspect animal is an animal that:
- Has not been tested and has 1/8 or more Shorthorn, Maine Anjou, or Chianina blood.
OR
- Is out of a TH or PHA carrier and has not been tested free.
- ASA’s procedure for TH/PHA testing includes DNA genotyping of the tested animal.
- If you’ve submitted a blood sample to be tested for TH, the same sample can be tested for PHA. The member is responsible for contacting AgriGenomics to request the sample be tested for PHA.
