2011 is shaping up to be one of the bestyears for SimGenetics as we are answering the beef industry’s call for positive economic traits. The cattle market is strong, and the demand for our genetics creates optimism as we look forward to some of the best times in the beef industry.

CMP (Carcass Merit Program) data:

• In 2011, the CMP carcass count was 618.
• The fall of 2011, 635

2012 is lining up to be a record year for Beef producers and Simmental Breeders are poised to provide an increasing portion of the genetics for the cattle industry. The “Profit Through Science” approach that we breeders and the American Simmental Association have taken has brought the breed to a most advantageous point in history. We will have to continue to make great strides in improving our seedstock to maintain our strong position in providing SimGenetics to the commercial cattle industry.

In these dynamic times, it is exciting to look forward to the vast tools at our disposal to make the decisions in moving SimGenetics to the front of Cattlemen’s choice for their ranches and farms. With the development of additional EPDs such as MBCE, MBMCE, MB stayability, and docility, and the inclusion of DNA in future evaluations, will give us many advantages to speeding up selection pressure and
results. With the Choice-Select spread at record levels and production costs at all-time highs, we will need to be even more vigilant in our commitment to providing profitable SimGenetics.
