Susan Russell, Sugar City, Colorado, has the distinction of succeeding her husband, Curtis, on the Board of Trustees, the first time in ASA history for that particular occurrence. The secretary-treasurer of the Colorado Simmental Association (CSA) since 1998, she has been instrumental in planning for the National Western Stock Show, the Colorado State Fair, state field days and breed outreach events. Computer-savvy, she has also maintained the CSA website. A partner in Reflected R Ranch, their 120-head cowherd has been reduced to 45 females due to extended drought. Yearling bulls are sold private treaty along with occasional consignment sales, while culls and commercial calves are fed out or sold as feeders. Since 2000, the Russells have operated a feed store called WW Feed and Supply in nearby La Junta. She holds a bachelors degree in journalism from Kansas State University and a Master’s from the University of Nebraska. She has 15 years experience as a newspaper and magazine editor. Russell is the mother of two sons, Jason and Chad, both deeply involved in American Junior Simmental Association events.
